表参道ヒルズ裏で門型コンクリート壁と大きな窓が目を惹く小さなビル。その変形四角形平面の１階とB１階に新たに生まれた展示兼イベントスペースです。
安藤忠雄建築研究所設計の建物の特徴を活かしながらも使い勝手のよい展示空間とすべく、躯体をなるべく露出しながらバックヤードや設備類を組み込んだ展示壁や階段を挿入し、必要以上に主張を加えずに空間全体を整えていきました。既存の床開口を活かした透過性のある床ハッチは、作品搬入口としてだけではなく吹き抜け利用や地下階へのトップライトのような効果を生み、ささやかに上下階の展示室を関係付けます。気積を最大化した展示室に天井の低い小空間や雰囲気の異なる階段が連なり、主空間を引き立てながらも体験にメリハリを与えています。
新たに挿入された３枚の白壁による展示空間は大きな窓や門型壁を通して街へと開かれ、この通りの魅力的な賑わいと心地よく繋がっていきます。開放的な地上階と外階段に導かれて潜り込む地下階が街に対して異なる距離感を保ち、両フロアを一体・個別と使い分けることでさまざまな展示やイベントが可能です。建物の持つダイナミックな幾何学構成を空間体験へと引き継ぎ、この場所ならではの企画や展示ができるような特異性と汎用性を兼ね備えたおおらかな場を目指しました。小さくとも魅力的なコンテンツが街へと発信されることを期待しています。
Located behind Omotesando Hills, this small building is characterized by its gate-shaped concrete wall and large windows. A flexible gallery space for events and exhibition has been newly created on 1F and B1F within its irregular quadrilateral plan.
Respecting the distinctive architecture originally designed by Tadao Ando Architect & Associates, the project sought to create a functional exhibition environment while leaving much of the original concrete frame exposed. Rather than introducing strong formal gesture, the intervention carefully integrates display walls, staircases, back-of-house functions, and building services to achieve clarity and balance throughout. A translucent floor hatch, utilizing an existing slab opening, functions both as an artwork loading hatch and as a vertical void that brings light into the basement, gently connecting the two exhibition levels.
The main gallery volume, with its maximized ceiling height, is complemented by smaller, lower-ceilinged spaces and distinctive staircases, adding rhythm and contrast to the overall spatial experience.
Three newly inserted white walls form exhibition spaces that open toward the street through the large windows and gate-shaped wall, establishing a comfortable connection with the lively street. The open ground floor and the more intimate basement, accessed via an external stair, maintain distinct atmosphere and relationships with the street. Allowing the two levels to be used either independently or together, the space can accommodate a wide range of exhibitions and events.
By translating the building’s dynamic geometric composition into a spatial experience, the project aims to create a generous and versatile place specific to its location. Though modest in scale, the space is intended to serve as a platform for various contents to inspire the city.
